GUEST CABIN IN SOUTHERN FINLAND

Remodelling of a 9 m2 log cabin room vith a lake view, suited for a family of 3, featuring a double bed, pia tikkanen design custom built mezzanine, cabinetry and steps that double as an open closet from the back. Dark and light wood contrasts create a graphic effect, highlighting the curves and lines of the design. Custom wall-mounted shelving is painted dark brown to blend in, keeping with an uncluttered look. Cabinetry built by Slawek Lorenz for Lorenz Interiors (www.lorenzinteriors.fi)

GUEST CABIN IN SOUTHERN FINLAND

Existing dark brown log walls and ceiling were kept as such, adding natural birch plywood and black-painted spruce plywood to the mix. Finnish design was chosen for the bed linen (Finlayson and Marimekko), the traditional rag rugs and also birch basketry plus 1950’s vintage mirror and chairs. French 50’s touches were added with Vallauris ceramics and same-era coat-hangers in yellow and black.

Dark brown log walls, ceiling, shelving, curtains, basketry and chairs create the backdrop for light birch and black elements to stand out, brightened by splashes of yellow and nude, all conveying a cosy design cubbyhole feeling in a perfect forest setting with a lake view.
